Anti-virus software can identify and block many viruses before they can infect your computer. Once you install anti-virus software, it is important to keep it up to date.
The software looks for patterns that would indicate an infection based upon the signatures or definitions of known viruses. As virus authors are continually updating virus, be sure to keep your anti-virus software up-to-date.
If the software locates a virus, a dialog may pop up asking what you would like to do or it might try to remove the virus. Look at the features your software offers to know what to expect.
Many anti-software vendors are available. They all serve the same basic purpose, so deciding which is best for you may depend on recommendations, features, costs, etc.
